  • Azuki NFT holders will get 37.5% of the yet-to-launched ANIME token
  • The token’s creator wants to use it to create a community-centric anime ecosystem
  • The ANIME token is expected to be launched this month

Azuki NFT holders are set to receive 37.5% or 3.75 billion tokens of Animecoin’s (ANIME) total supply which is set at ten billion tokens. Set to be launched this month, the project has also reserved 13% of the token’s supply for community cultivation activities while another 24.4% will go towards domain expansion. The project’s team will retain 15.6% while the rest will go to partner communities and the Azuki company, something that’ll help popularize the NFT project outside the web3 space.

ANIME Will Be On Ethereum and Arbitrum

The Animecoin Foundation described ANIME as a culture coin that will unite one billion anime fans. The project is also working to develop AnimeDAO which will help manage how the funds will be allocated to various other courses.

The foundation disclosed it’ll launch ANIME on both Ethereum and Arbitrum. Last year, Azuki partnered with the Ethereum layer 2 to create an Anime-focused network known as AnimeChain.

Most of the tokens will be fully unlocked at launch except for tokens allocated to the Azuki company, ANIME project’s team, and advisors. A third of the tokens allocated to these three groups will become available to them after one year with the rest unlocked “linearly from year 1 to year 3.”

ANIME Isn’t the First Token Linked to an NFT Project

The amount allocated to the Azuki community will likely be shared with all holders of Azuki-linked NFT collections like BEANZ Official, Azuki Elementals, and Azuki. Although the ANIME token isn’t directly launched by Azuki, the web3 project is a major contributor to the Animecoin Foundation.

ANIME’s launch comes less than a month after NFT project Pudgy Penguins released a new token called PENGU. It also comes less than a month after rumors emerged that NFT exchange OpenSea is planning to launch its own token.

With Azuki “launching” its own token, more NFT collections and NFT-focused firms will likely launch their tokens this year.
