  • TON-based wallet drainer has shut down for lack of whales on the TON blockchain
  • The wallet drainer said it will migrate to the Bitcoin network
  • The drainer also said the TON network has “a small community”

TON-based wallet drainer has announced that it’s shutting down due to a lack of whales and the TON network having “a small community.” The crypto wallet drainer isn’t completely abandoning its business and intends to try its luck on the Bitcoin blockchain, noting that its users won’t hesitate to steal BTC. The drainer is shifting from The Open Network to Bitcoin when similar services like Pink Drainer have announced a total shutdown, indicating that malicious actors will always seek easy and worthy targets.

The Drainer Won’t Return to TON

According to Scam Sniffer, a platform that offers anti-scam services, the wallet drainer provided a link to another TON-based drainer for its users who would like to continue compromising wallets on The Open Network. It also disclosed that it’s “gone [from TON] and will not be returning.”

The drainer leaves the TON network a few months after blockchain researchers noted that wallet drainers, hackers, and scammers are increasingly targeting TON-based projects because the network is less developed compared to other blockchains like Ethereum.

Other Wallet Drainers Are either Upgrading or Shutting Down

In June, for example, blockchain security firm SlowMist reported a surge in phishing threats on the network. The wallet drainer’s shift to Bitcoin comes a month after a similar service, Angel Drainer, announced that it upgraded to AngelX to make it easy to use and support more blockchains like TON and TRON.

The TON-based drainer is also moving to Bitcoin when other popular crypto wallet drainers like Inferno Drainer have announced that they are completely shutting down. In May, Pink Drainer told scammers to “take a step back from the grind.”

With the TON-based wallet drainer taking its services to the Bitcoin blockchain, it’s to be seen whether it’ll succeed in maliciously draining BTC wallets.
